Carbon Fiber Construction Hard Hat

When working on any hazardous task it is important that you wear the appropriate sort of clothing.  For anyone who is involved in the erection of buildings then the kinds of safety clothing that they should be wearing includes carbon fiber construction hard hats, boots and gloves.  If they don’t then the risk of them being injured during the work they are asked to carry is of course greatly increased.

As there are so many different types of hard hats now available it is important that before you invest in anyone you understand a little more about them.  In order to do so we take a brief look at the way in which these types of hats are classified.

When it comes to construction hard hats including those that are made from carbon fiber they will be categorized in one of three different classifications.

Class A – These are to be used for general service.  Designed to provide a good level of protection against impact but not against you being injured from electricity.  These kinds of hats normally are used mainly by the construction industry but also the mining, lumber, manufacturing and ship building industries as well.

Class B – These are the types of hard hats that people should be wearing when involved in carrying out any sort of electrical work.  Of course they will still provide you with plenty of protection from any kind of falling object but also from burns or shock caused by you coming into contact with high voltage items.

Class C – When it comes to this type of carbon fiber construction hard hat you will find that these are built for comfort and only offer a small amount of protection to you when wearing them.  They are really designed to provide your head with protection if you should bump into any object that is in a fixed position.  These are not actually designed to be worn if there is a risk of objects falling on you or if you are likely to incur an electric shock.

So before you do actually purchase any kind of construction hard hat, whether it is a carbon fiber hard hat or some other type, you should think about the kind of work you will be carrying out.  This way you can then determine of the three types of hats we have discussed above which is the one that will suit your needs the best and so provide you with the best level of protection.

As well as of course making sure that you purchase the right classification of hat to wear for your job you need to consider the size.  As you will find these types of hats come in a variety of different designs and sizes and it is important that you purchase one that fits your head perfectly.

Generally when it comes to carbon fiber construction hard hats they have a feature that allows them to adjust them to fit your head.  However it is still a good idea to know what size your head is initially and so of course this means measuring it.  There are plenty of places online that explain how to do this.

Full Brim Carbon Fiber Hard Hat

It isn’t just the employers who are concerned about their workers safety so are they.  Certainly for those who work in industries such as mining or construction then wearing the right sort of clothing is important.  Especially if they want to reduce the risk of the chances of them being injured during the course of the day.  One crucial piece of clothing that such employees should be supplied with that work in these industries is a full brim carbon fiber hard hat.

This type of hat unlike others comes with a brim that goes right around it rather than just at the front.  As a result this will prevent not only the sunlight hitting them in the eyes but also on the ears throughout the day.  So of course this is the kind of hat that those who spend a great deal of their time working outside in dangerous locations.

Of course wearing a full brim carbon fiber hard hat isn’t just protecting them from the risk of developing skin cancer it comes with other benefits.  The most important of all of these is that the person wearing is protected against any injury being caused to their head should something fall on to them or if they are involved in any sort of accident which results in their head hit a hard surface.

So how does this type of hard hat offer such protection to the wearer?

What you need to remember is that the rigid shell of these hats is such that it is capable of deflecting blows aimed at it.  In many cases depending upon the force of the strike aimed at the head of the person wearing it they generally may feel a little dazed but certainly they shouldn’t notice any kind of blood appearing.  Also within any full brim carbon fiber hard hat you will find that there is a suspension system installed is what actually sits on your head, so the helmet itself isn’t really in close contact with the skull.  The main aim of the system within the hard is to absorb the shock caused when a hard object comes into contact with the hat with any force.

But although most of us see these types of hats as offering protection against articles causing damage to the skull and brain, they can provide protection in other ways.  Some of the designs now available have specially insulating materials within them that will prevent a person suffering an electrical shock should they come into contact with wires that are live and exposed.    Certainly if you are someone who is working in the construction industry and involved in the wiring of new properties then wearing this style of full brim carbon fiber hard hat is essential.

However although many employers today are required to supply such equipment to their employees to wear.  At the end of the day it is up to the person who now has the full brim carbon fiber hard hat to take care of it properly.  If they should notice any damage or defects then they must make sure that they report these to their employer immediately.

MSA Carbon Fiber Hard Hat

When it comes to the purchasing of safety head gear there are several different companies that can supply such items for you.  However one company that is particularly well known for producing good quality items is MSA.  This company has been established for more than 90 years and produce a wide variety of different hard hats for use in various industries.  However the MSA carbon fiber hard hat models now available that are proving among the most popular especially with those who work in the mining and construction industries.

So what is so different about the kinds of hard hats that MSA produce in relation to those that other companies offer?

Well first of this is a company who understand how important it is that the safety equipment they sell is created the from the finest quality materials.  To this end nearly every piece of the equipment is formulated, machines, tooled and then molded in house and from only raw materials.  So of course this then ensures that they have a great deal more control over the manufacturing processes and can then determine much more quickly if the quality of the product being produced is good or not.

So what reasons are there for you purchasing an MSA Carbon Fiber Hard Hat over the other types available?  Below we take a look at some of these.

Reason 1 – Although these types of hats are made from high quality carbon fiber that is resistant to wear you shouldn’t ever expect them to last forever.  In fact over time they can begin to degrade because a number of different things can cause this to happen.  Fluctuations in temperature can lead to the integrity of the hat being reduced.  Also should it come into contact with hazardous materials this can lead to the hat needing to be replaced.  However if yours suffers from only general wear and tear then it is quite okay to replace the hat itself every 5 years and the suspension system inside every year.

Reason 2 – Every single one of the MSA carbon fiber hard hats will have a date stamped inside them.  It is this that tells you when the hat was manufactured and it is this date that you use to then decide when it needs to be replaced.  So for example if the date inside the helmet reads March 06 then of course you should be looking to replace the hat completely in March 2011.

Reason 3 – When it comes to MSA carbon fiber hard hats they will have had to undergo a number of rigorous tests.  It is these tests that ensure that they meet with the safety standards set by the Government with regards to this type of protective clothing.  Every single one of the hats that MSA produces have an ANSI label inside them.  If you cannot find this then in all likelihood the hard hat that you are considering isn’t in fact a genuine MSA one and so it won’t be able to offer your head the same level of protection.

Kevlar Hard Hat

Today when it comes to the purchasing of a Kevlar hard hat you will find that there are number of different styles to choose from.  The one you select is of course dependent on the type of work that you will be doing whilst wearing.  So  in order for you to determine which kind you should be wearing we look at the styles that are available and when they should be worn.

Type 1 – Accessory Slot/Slotted Hard Hat

This type of Kevlar hard hat has slots one either side of the main part of it.  With this type you are then in a position to wear other protective gear with it such as face shields and ear muffs.  This type is best used by those in the manufacturing industry who work with noisy machinery.

Type 2 – Bump Cap

When it comes to this type of hat it only offers light protection to the person wearing it.   It is really designed for providing protection against blows or an impact occurring to either the tops or sides of one’s head.  You certainly shouldn’t be wearing this sort of hard hat if you work in the mining or construction industry.

Type 3 – Cap Style Hard Hat

This is the design of hard hat that is instantly recognizable to many of us today and the kind that we would normally think that those who work in the construction industry wear.  They just have a brim at the front and they look very similar in design to baseball caps.  But these are designed to withstand lots of impact and blows being forced on them.

Type 4 – Full Brim Hard Hat

Although the shape of this Kevlar hard hat is similar to that of the cap style one instead rather than just having a brim at the front it goes around the whole bottom edge of the hat.  This type of hat not only offers protection against falling objects but also from the elements.  Both this and the cap style are perfect for being used by those who work in the construction or mining industries.

Of course after deciding you need to make sure that you take care of yours.  Plus it is important that you regularly inspect yours.  But don’t just concern yourself with inspecting the exterior of your hard hat but also the interior including the suspension system.    As soon as you notice anything untoward then this is the time to think about replacing it.

What sorts of things should you be looking for when it comes to having to replace yours?

You should be looking to replace your Kevlar hard hat if you notice any cracks appearing in the shell or if the surface has become chalky or dull.  Plus you should also look at replacing yours as soon as you notice that the shell has become brittle.

As for the suspension system within your Kevlar hard hat this must be replaced if it has become brittle or if any of the mounts have broken.  Plus immediately replace this part of the hard hat if you notice it isn’t helping to keep it securely on your head.
